Baked Apple Bliss

So quick and simple, yet often forgotten about – baked apple is a classic dessert that uses IMG_1496up the glutton of windfall apples many apple-tree-owners end up with. Instead of palming off carrier bags of apples to anyone who will take them, or attempting to make cider and wishing you’d never started, try this simple recipe for breakfast, snack or dessert, and give it a healthy twist with the ingredients included here.

You can also bake in the oven, or cheat, be controversial and use the microwave….

Ingredients

(serves 1)

  • 1 large apple (cooking apple or eating apple)
  • 1 handful oats
  • 1 tbsp ground flax
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil or butter
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp nuts or seeds
  • 1/2 tbsp raisins

Method

Pre-heat oven to 150 degrees C

Remove the apple core by using and apple-corer or by slicing down through the middle of the apple

Fill the hole with the rest of the ingredients (pre-mix them in a bowl for best results)

Place the apple in an oven and bake for 50-60 minutes

OR place in the microwave and blast for 5 minutes….

Look for a consistency that is soft but not collapsing

Serve hot with a scoop of ice cream, or yoghurt

Enjoy!
