If the Summer was full of parties, BBQs, long lazy lunches and dinners that lasted well into the night, then use this transitional time into early Autumn to re-boot, revitalise and rejuvenate the body. The immune system, digestive system and respiratory system are especially important to care for at this time of year, as they are the areas we are most likely to experience difficulty with due to fluctuations in temperature, air pressure and humidity, a change in diet and daily routine, and the gradual change of daylight hours.
While the last British bank holiday of the Summer is definitely one to celebrate, make sure you have these handy alternatives to give you a boost and help you enter Autumn feeling full of wellness!

Goodness Gracious Greens
Full of alkaline properties and abundant with vitamins, this juice is a very effective tonic for anyone feeling as though they need to inject some health into them. I would recommend purchasing a juicer, as juicing regularly is a fantastic way to naturally give yourself a lot of much needed minerals, and can effectively cure and prevent many illnesses.
If you don’t own a juicer, you can blend these ingredients, although the texture and taste of the drink will not be the same and the ingredients will not be absorbed into the body as efficiently. You will however, benefit by consuming more gut-healthy fibre. So it’s win-win, really!
Juice & Drink Immediately: (serves 1-2)
- 1 stick celery
- 1 apple
- 1/2 cucumber
- 1 big handful spinach
- 1 inch fresh ginger
- 1 inch slice unwaxed lemon (with the rind on)
- 1 carrot
- a few sprigs of brocolli (brocolli is one of the most alkalising vegetables and very important for reducing the body’s acidity.)

Juice & Drink Immediately: (serves 2)
- 2 apples
1 small handful parsley (just use a small amount as this herb is very powerful)
- 1 medium beetroot

Blackberry & Mint Infused Water
Increasing your intake of water isn’t just for the hot, Summer months; for the body to be able to function fully and clear any little potential viruses, water intake is essential for ‘flushing’ everything through. Blackberries are seasonal at this time of year, so they will naturally contain properties that the body requires at this time of year, and mint is very helpful for improving digestion and soothing inflammation.
How To:
- Pour a jug of filtered water
- Add fresh mint leaves and blackberries – see if you can find blackberries near you to hand-pick (pick berries that are away from the road to avoid car fumes and at the level of your waist upwards to avoid any ‘added ingredients’ from animal urine!)
