Non Alcoholic Healthy Hot Toddy

hht.jpgFor when you’re feeling the effects of a cold or flu, or you want to look after someone who is feeling a little under the weather, this warming, spiced and citrusy concoction still packs a punch without the alcohol. A great way to warm and soothe a sore throat and shift a chesty cough, the ingredients in the recipe are pretty simple but powerful too.

Baobab is a fruit of the ‘Tree of Life’ native to Africa and is extremely high in vitamin C and fibre, which means it can help enhance energy levels and boost the immune system whilst maintaining good gut health (also vital for the immune system!) Most health food stores and even some supermarkets sell a baobab superfood powder blend these days, and just 2-3 tsp adds up to 33% of your daily vitamin C requirements!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup black tea
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • juice of ½ a lemon
  • 2-3 tsp baobab powder
  • 1 tsp raw honey

Method

Brew a cup of black tea for about 5 minutes

Add all ingredients (other than the honey) to a pan with the brewed tea (tabeg removed)

Warm through but do not boil

Once warmed, pour into a large mug and add the honey

For an extra kick and even more gut health benefits, add a tbsp of apple cider vinegar!

Enjoy and get well soon!
